As a newcomer to the mile city I was able to experience my first hockey game here and the crowd was electric (even though I wasn’t cheering for the Avalanche…opps?) and you could tell this city loves their sports teams. Denver is lucky enough to be a city that has sports team for every major sport in the United States.
The second to last addition of Denver sports teams came in 1995 all the way from Quebec, Ontario. The Quebec Nordiques became what is now known to us Colorado Avalanche after moving to their new home here in Denver. The Avalanche made a big splash upon their entrance to the NHL by winning the Stanley Cup in 1996 during their very first season here in Denver.
Currently the Avalanche in the midst of rebounding from their less than stellar 2016-17 season, making it to the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs but unfortunately losing the series 4-2 to the Nashville Predators. The trip to the playoffs seems to have fired up the Avalanche as they are red hot starting the season by winning their first two games winning their home opener against the Minnesota Wild 4-1 and winning 5-2 over the Philadelphia Flyers.
While the young teams only has 2 Stanley Cup victory in their 23 years in the NHL young stars and experienced veterans seemed poised to bring the cup back to mile high city.
If you’re looking for something to-do even if you aren’t a big sports fan I definitely recommend and Avalanche game, the crowd the energy the food it all pairs up for one heck of a night. And at the very least, check out our if you want to show some Avalanche pride check out our sports themed dessert boxes.
